One of my favorite things about Instagram is that it helps each craft find its day in the sun. No matter how obscure or old-fashioned they seem, there is always a designer modernizing it, which can be said of crochet, candle-making, and currently stained glass. I’ve always had a soft spot for sun catchers, as a lover of all things prismatic, but it’s time to finally dive deeper into this craft. I mean, the practice has been around since sometime before the 7th century. So for today’s #funwithtrends, let’s take a look at four of our favorite modern glass artists:
LA based home furnishing designer Lulu LaFortune utilizes stained glass in the making of her modern lamps:

Another Los Angeles maker, Janel Foo, crafts modern sun catchers, planters, window panels, and unique commissioned artwork with glass. She also dabbles in glass fusing to create colorblocked coasters! If you’re a fan of craft reality TV (a perfect niche, if you ask me), you might recognize her from Discovery’s Meet Your Makers Showdown.
Brooklyn-based Sacha Carlos-Raps is a printmaker, illustrator, and maker of quirky, colorful, and super fun stained glass objects. In her shop you’ll find stained glass suncatchers depicting fruits, stars, sweets, and swimmers!
Stained glass artist Melanie of @rollend.glas, based in The Netherlands, turns butterflies, birds, and other creatures found in nature into decor like wall hangings, sun catchers, and panels. The detail is quite honestly breathtaking.
