It’s fascinating to see how trends evolve. Most of them don’t just go away entirely—they transform over time to something completely different and (usually) better. Take the checker print that exploded during the pandemic. You wouldn’t see a brand without a checker-adorned shirt or hat or accessory to offer. Then there were the wavy checkers, a marriage of two very trendy prints of the time. After a while, the check seemed to fade. But since it is a classic motif (not unlike bows), artists and designers over the globe found ways to elevate the look, bringing in new color palettes and textures. Sometimes it’s a new take on gingham or plaid or buffalo check, and sometimes it’s just a classic colorblock pattern, but it’s always interesting.

Check Print Fashion – Trendy or Timeless?
A few years back, we started to see checker print on just about every bucket hat or lounge pant imaginable. It was on all the trendiest clothes, especially from beloved indie brands that were always a step ahead. But for those of us who love a good trend and a good timeless look, it was a trend-gone-tired quickly. Now that it has evolved a bit more, we love the idea of going a bit more classic (gingham and buffalo check are here forever, folks), while maintaining surprising color pairings and modern cuts.
Obviously, linen is the perfect way to channel the look for spring. And for light and airy and beautiful dresses and sets, I always look to Off On Clothing. This is their check linen set in the dreamiest colorway.
A subtle departure from the checkerboard print, in keeping with the playful vibe – these are the Petra linen pants in pink and blue check from Australian brand VRG GRL.
Red and pink checker print dress and pants, also from VRG GRL elevates those trendy squares with breezy silhouettes. If you love red and pink, you might want to check out this post!
Lastly, we had to include this Olivia Rose the Label bucket hat from our first trend roundup in spring 2021, as seen on @annawinck.
