Between our last fun with trends post on staffordshire dogs and this ode to budgies, you might be wondering whether we just blog about animal trends now… (And if that’s a thing, we’re officially the experts). Ever since we launched the shop, we’ve been trying to find balance between being on top of the latest trends and offering timeless goods that support our slow living goals. But while some trends may pass quickly, we’ll always love our animal friends!
Angela had two budgies growing up, so it was an easy decision to include this Jungle Birds art print in the shop!
what are budgies?
Depending on where you live, you may have grown up calling these birds parakeets, budgies, or budgerigars. The name “budgerigar” refers to the common parakeet, though there are actually over 100 species of this cute little bird. Parakeets are actually one of the smallest pieces of true parrots! These beloved birdies, which are native to Australia, are the most common to have as pets.

Like parrots, parakeets have the ability to mimic speech, which makes them pretty incredible creatures. While you’re certain to find them in almost every pet shop, they can also be seen in the wild in some parts of Australia. And since so many people own them as pets in the US, flocks have been known to inhabit warm sunny places like Florida and Southern California.
