Maybe this is strange, but our society’s collective overuse of drab neutrals in the home seriously bums me out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against a uniquely styled home full of sophisticated greys and creams (the brilliant Sarah Sherman Samuel comes to mind). But for the most part, it seems, people just purchase whatever beige or brown couch, interior paint, and rug they can find, throw it together and call it a day.
Lucky for them, they have unlimited places to go when it comes to purchasing such pieces. For those who rely on color, pattern, or the element of surprise to make a space feel more lively and livable, finding furniture to match can be a challenge. Whether it’s the look of Danish pastels, moody maximalism, or dopamine decor you dream of, finding the right couch colors to anchor your space can be the most challenging of all.
But I’m on a mission to prove that no matter your style, you can find the perfect couch for your space, even if your vision is a room full of jewel tones or layer upon layer of grandmillennial charm.

Searching for colorful couches online is hard in itself. First of all, how do you search for a color if you’re not exactly sure which you want just yet? I found that I had to click into hundreds of different designs before I could even begin to see the variety of fabrics available, because often the main listing shows the most popular (AKA neutral) variation. For example, the yellow striped sofa above, and the green couch with pink piping, were both designs I “customized” on each site’s product listing. Long story short, if you want a unique couch color or pattern, you’ll need to do some serious digging.
Where To Buy A Pink Couch
Thankfully pink couches are having a moment (I’d already own one if I didn’t need a contrasting color to complement my already pink rug, coffee table, and accent wall), so this is a color you’re sure to find in any style or price range.
You’ll soon see how many couches with tassel detail have been catching my eye, like in this corner couch featured in a showroom designed by Brittany Bromley Interiors with hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper (see more wallpaper we love here and here!) and photographed by Sargent Photo. The contrast piping here seals the deal.
You’ve probably seen these photos from Stephanie Hill of The Style Bungalow floating around Pinterest for the last few years, I know I’ve pinned and repinned her chic pink and green apartment many times. The space features Society Social’s Monroe Tassel Sofa in Ballet Pink, another favorite hue besides the sage in our collage above.
Joybird’s Holt Armless U-Sofa Sectional has become an IG favorite pink couch, whether you choose the plush Terra Rose velvet design above or their poppy Royale Blush.
I’ve been a long admirer (though never owner) of Interior Define. Their custom couches come in a plethora of delightful colors and styles, and seem just as functional and cozy. I’ve ordered swatches in the past but couldn’t decide on a color (my forever problem…and they have over 130 shades) and ultimately decided to wait until I really need a new sofa and have the money to invest in the perfect one. Get The Look: Danish Pastels
I’d be remiss to guide you toward a colorful couch without throwing some pastels in the mix. While I love that many leaders in the Danish pastel aesthetic contrast neutrals (often a cozy modular gray couch) with candy-colored wall paint, art, and other decor, I especially love those who have branched out with a unique sofa color choice.
To go bright and bold, consider something akin to the Rose curved sofa from Denmark’s Sofa Company (oh, how I wish they were available in the US!). Curved sofas are everywhere right now, aren’t they?
Love a striped couch, especially with a pop of color like in Melissa Faulkner of Colourful Melissa‘s living room. She got her previous sofa re-upholstered with a striped fabric blue and cream fabric. If you can go custom… then definitely go custom.
More Unique Couch Colors
Straying from pastels, the Kardiel Alexis sofa in Ember Velvet in the home of Katie Shelton (totally remember following the Skunk Boy blog from our early blogging days!) makes a statement when surrounded by light walls and rugs.
If you’re a fan of jewel tones but don’t want to go too dark, this golden mustard yellow couch, the Eliot Sofa in Bentley Daisey by Joybird (via Molly Burke) may be the perfect fit.
