I’m barely five feet tall, so I’ve avoided long coats most of my life. But my perspective on fashion has changed greatly during the pandemic. I just care about what’s comfortable, and what I think is cute, so much more than I care about what’s conventionally flattering. (Kudos to everyone who didn’t need a worldwide plague to come to that realization.) Long story short, I picked up two different mid-length coats (so, long on me) over the last couple years, and they’ve both come to be my absolute favorite articles of clothing this time of year.

how to wear long coats for winter
If housecoats are in, pretty pajamas clearly are too. You wanna wear PJ pants and a t-shirt? Fine, just throw on a coat. Instantly elevated. What about leggings and dinged-up Nikes? Yup. I know, because I do it about five times a week. And if you really want to dress it up, skinny jeans, loafers, and a cute bag are absolutely as formal as one needs to be. No matter what I wear with a long coat, I seem to get compliments. It’s truly remarkable.
I should take fashion risks more often, huh? Which long coat are you eyeing? I love the classic plaid wool reimagined in pastels (duh!) but the Oof puffer is REVERSIBLE and can be tan or lilac! Genius.
