We’ve seen scallops make their mark on everything from decorative objects to rugs to paint designs and fashion too, whether it conveys a coastal vibe (think woven rattan trays with scalloped edges) or one of whimsy (like in the pastel wall mirrors we posted here). But like stripes and bows, scallops take on new roles depending on the trend of the time and now, we’re seeing a more refined side of them…everywhere. There’s something about the pairing of such a whimsical pattern so beautifully carved into solid wood to create the scalloped furniture and décor collected below—a twist on a classic that shows a sense of laidback elegance as if to say, I’m a sophisticated person…but I still know how to have fun.

get the look: wood, scalloped furniture
I suppose this post may feel a little off brand for us, as its such a departure from our normally quite colorful content. There was a moment last winter when Jenn and I looked at the images we’d both saved in our shared account @studiowallflower, and were like, wait, are we into brown now? While we’ve always loved incorporating a bit of contrast into our brights (we’re big fans of deep green here in the studio), we still lean toward an aesthetic marked by playful color and lots of whimsy. (I mean, I don’t have to tell you, even our logo is a rainbow of pastels—though an update is coming soon!) Darker, earthy spaces are trending in interiors now—this change in mood coming on the heels of bold, colorful, dopamine interiors that emerged during the pandemic.

St Jacques scalloped desk, also from Maison Madeleine. I think scalloped furniture in desk form may be my favorite iteration of the trend.
