Holiday Craft Party Ideas

published on 11/19/21 by Angela Hamilton

I love holidays. I love crafts. And I love parties. Any reason to get festive, and I’m there. The garlands below are already on my mantel, and my pink Christmas tree is set to make its annual appearance next weekend (why not, you know?). All that to say, I love to get creative this time of year and break out all the crafts I’ve stowed away. I usually invite friends and family to partake in a holiday craft party, where we chill together while making a giant joyous mess.

Here are a few of my favorite craft party ideas for the season!

choose your craft theme

Give your party a little direction by settling on a couple different crafts that you can prepare for in advance. While everyone can contribute their own materials, as the host you’ll want to lay the foundation with all the basics like tools, glue, scissors etc. Besides that, anything goes!

  • Holiday garlands (I order felt balls off of Etsy, and yarn from KnitPicks).
  • Cards – you’ll want lots of blank cardstock and envelopes for this, and everyone can bring their own embellishments like stencils, stickers, stamps, glitter, ribbon, and so on!
  • Gift wrap – host a gift wrap party where everyone contributes their favorite wrap and accessories! Combine all the materials when you get together so all the guests can try something new.

set the scene

Every great party has an impressive spread, and a craft party is no exception. Highlights include:

  • An epic grazing board. For fall gatherings, I like to do cheese & charcuterie, along with fruits like figs and  cranberries (which can be dried or fresh), various crackers, and jams, and we’ve even been known to add some chocolate in the mix! If you have a larger guest list, you’ll want to sprinkle some little snack dishes across multiple tables/gathering areas.
  • A festive themed drink. Mix up your favorite holiday cocktail (preferably one that can stand alone as a mocktail too, if some guests prefer a non-alcoholic beverage) or stock the bar cart with various libations and garnishes. Herbs, cinnamon sticks, pomegranate seeds and raspberries, and various syrups are always fun this time of year! Cider is always a good option on its own or as a mixer.
  • Something sweet. You can’t go wrong serving up a nice, warm baked good at a holiday craft party!

make it pretty

Go the extra mile by serving drinks in matching glasses (this is when I break out my pink vintage coupes and wine glasses), snacks on a fancy serving board etc. Basically, break out all the fun stuff you would for a more formal gathering. Yep, craft parties can be elegant, too!

Do you ever host craft parties? Tell us how you make them special.
